Masterton Newborn Baby
I had the privilege of photographing this gorgeous mama and her beautiful bump a few weeks earlier (check out some of the photos from that maternity session here), so it was neat to catch up with this family and see their beautiful baby boy.
This handsome fellow was already four weeks old in these photos, but that is perfectly OK. If you are a mama with a newborn, I totally get you wanting to wait a bit until you feel more on top of things before getting photos done. As my bubs is only seven weeks old at the moment, I clearly remember those exhausting, sleep deprived and overwhelming first few weeks. This lovely mama was rocking mum life however, and made it look so easy!
There was bit of a snafu with the power all over town that morning, so we weren’t even sure we would be able to have his session that day. Lucky for us, the power outage didn’t last long, and we were still able to squeeze it in, just a bit later in the day. Most of my newborn sessions are scheduled for the morning. I feel this is when baby is often the happiest, and less likely to have tummy trouble from gas built up during the day.
My newborn sessions are very relaxed, bub spends most of the session where they are the happiest- in their parents’ arms. I don’t pose baby with wraps and props, just a simple swaddle. My theory is that babies are beautiful just the way they are. Too many props in newborn photos just take away from their simple perfection. I also think that less is more; I want to avoid any trends you may look back on in a few years and cringe. I’m looking at you, fluorescent windbreaker and perms. ;)
